Art and Design Curriculum Statement
“Art is a place for children to learn to trust their ideas, themselves and to explore what is possible.”
At St Andrew’s Infant School, we believe that Art and Design encourages children to develop their creativity, nurtures their imagination and provides children with a variety of ways to express their thoughts, feelings and emotions.
During their time at St Andrew’s Infant School, each child will have their own sketchbooks to record and demonstrate their developing skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art and craft techniques, which enable them to produce their own pieces of artwork using a wide variety of media and techniques.
We want our children to know how art and design has contributed to our own culture and understanding of our history and the world.
Our children will focus on a variety of key artists linked to their topics and they will begin to understand the development of their particular art forms. The children will have opportunities to take inspiration from these key artists and create their own artwork in their particular styles.
At St Andrew’s Infant School, we hope to foster a love for art in all of our children as they progress through our school, having provided them inspiring experiences, knowledge and skills necessary to develop a positive attitude and confidence in their own abilities.
